FALL DOWN TO THE LIFT SHAFT CAUSED BY THE INSPECTION TECHNICIAN

The Police accused the inspection technician whose fault caused that a 26-year-old man fell down to the lift shaft in November last year. This 63-year-old craftsman did a poor job by not informing about necessary lift inspections during the test.

In early November last year the young man called a lift in the building of 08 Vítkovice Factory and wanted to travel down from the second floor to the ground floor. Due to a lift failure he entered an empty shaft and fell down seven meters onto the lift cabin roof.

"He suffered moderate injuries requiring five weeks long recovery," said the Ostrava Police spokeswoman Gabriela Holčáková. Lukáš Huml from the Ostrava rescue team specified that the man suffered the concussion, injured leg and arm, injury on his hip and abdomen and several attritions and bruises.

Landing door of the lift were significantly worn out, so the young man had no difficulties opening them. According to the police report, the technician made several faults.

During the lift test he did not inform the operator about the required inspections and the mandatory dates. “Lift inspection was supposed to be carried out in 2006. If it had been actually performed, the door failure would have definitely been discovered,“ explained Mrs Holčáková.

The accused might now be sentenced to one year in prison.
